The 30th Annual Billie Gibbs
Memorial Golf Tournament
July 13-14th, 2018
Amelia river Golf Club
Amelia Island, Florida

Welcome

Duke Gibbs welcomed everyone to the 31st Annual Billie Gibbs Memorial Golf  Tourney.
Lincoln made a motion we accept the minutes from the 2017 meeting, Winston 2nd.  Carried.

Old Business

He was playing on the 7th hole and his partner hit his 2nd shot in the bunker. Hit two shots and it rolled back in.  Randy said you want another.  His partner gave him the look and Randy said, You can cuss if you want.  His partner was Pastor Sam.

Paul thanked everyone and told the story of how in 1988 the 5 boys brother in law Gary and Charlie Piddock started the tourney.   His stated Daddy (Billie) picked up the game at 60 and fell in love with it. His with Louise played with him.  She would always ask what daddy had and if he said 5 she would reply I had a 5 too.

In 1988 Gary and Paul came to the 18th green tied.  Gary had about an 80 foot putt to win the tournament.  The length grows every year, By the time were’re all gone and the boys are telling this story years from now it will be a 150 putt.  But never the less it was long.  Gary stood over the putt studied it and stroked it hard.  It rolled up the hill broke right down the hill broke left levels out and drains the bottom of the cup.  Gary flashed his famous grin and begin as the inaugural Billie Chamipion.

Paul told the story of how the reported in Alma wrote some things in the newpaper about Daddy and Daddy confronted him and told him if he didn’t print a retraction story he would know him out.

Bill told the following story.  In 1994 playing the tourney in Orlando Bill was going into the 8th hole one under playing with Eulin.  Bill hit the green and had  1 foot putt for Birdie,  He leaned over to shoo a fly of his putter as he had already addressed the ball and when he did his belly bumped the putter and it touched the ball. He looked up and Eulin and all he said was stroke.  Bill then proceeded to miss the putt.

New Business

Eulin made  motion we flight 10 people per flight.  Simeon responded this was a big rule change. Lincoln stated everybody wants a hand out. Matt Gibbs 2nd the motion.  Eulin stated it gives everybody something to play for.  He amended it to be the championship and then the flights.  Passed 48-0

Justin Mills made a motion we charge $10 per tourney and if someone makes a hole in one the get pot.  The remainder will go to charity.  If no winner will carry over year to year. Larry asked him to amend it to 75% goes to golfer 25% to charity which he did.  Motion carried.  Justin will collect the funds.

Justin said he made a motion that each person can pick someone they want to play with in the first round.  Aaron 2nd the motion. Ryan Byrnes and Just in were playing together in 2017 and it was 107 degrees.  Justin looked over and said, no offense but I would rather be on the beach than with 3 guys I won’t see again for another year.
Eulin stated you can play with you friends in the practice rounds.  Winston said something but he was talking so fast I couldn’t read my notes.  Lincoln said he like the idea.  Ben Hobbs asked the executive committee to consider.  Since there was a motion and 2nd on the floor a vote was called.  Voted down 34 against and 14 for.

Duke stated we will be using the real time scores thru the app.

Rules
PG stated big thing is there are lot of palmettos.  On hole #6 anything between holes in not lateral.  Waded said the pro stated to play it lateral.
Simeon stated it would get crowed with the shotgun start.

Handicaps

Ross Stevenson said he wants a 35.  Said best round he shot was a 102.  Paul Gibbs showed a photo of  him with a trophy.  He got a 29.

Tommy Peacock steps up being a good friend of Wade Britt and thinking he has an inside track stated he’ll take a 25.  It was brought up he lives on a golf course plays at least 5 days a week and that sounded like a good number he got a 5.

Drew Williams requested a 23.  Said his best round was an 84.  It was brought up he is 25 and in peak shape he travels internationally and he’ll probably break his best score playing in this prestigious tourney.  He got a 10.

Jim Dwyer has been playing since he was 4.  Says his true handicap in 1.5.  It was pointed out we don’t do points.  Played with Winston in practice round.  Found out he just missed playing in the Phoenix Open by one stroke.  Father is a college golf coach. Played the Braclays from the tips and shot a 77  He was  given a 0.

Jason Dominey wanted a modest 12.  Duke stated he is a very talented man.  Worship leader at church plays golf 6 days a week.  Played golf and basketball in college.  Dad played in the NBA.  Said his best round was 77.  John Daniel said, Well what would God give you, this is where you don’t give cocky at the Billie.  He stated he’d probably give me a “0” .  Well if it’s good enough for God it’s good enough for us, he got a 0.

John Carden who usually shoots around an 80.  Was hoping for an 8.  Hope don’t mean anything in the Billie, He got a 1.

Antony Cadieux was not present to plead his case so in that case he got a 5.
